Autohouse Associates was established on November 18, 1988 and commenced trading on February 1, 1989. The principal activity of the Company is that of Property Consultants, under the direction of Chris Brown, MRICS - under two styles - Surveyors & Valuers, and Property Specialists to the Motor Trade. The Company is able to offer the expertise gained by Mr Brown since 1979 in motor trade property, gained in employment with Ford Motor Company Limited, and with the many motor trade clients for whom the Company acts as well as his experience as a Surveyor since 1961, across the property spectrum.
From the initial start with motor trade clients, the company has expanded and diversified, advising numerous commercial and business clients with regard to all property issues, and motor trade now accounts for about 40% of total clients, 10 of which are from the Country’s Top 200 Motor Traders.
In 1997, a sister company, St John Chartered Surveyors (originally as Autohouse 2000), was established to handle all Agency and professional work for non-motor business. In April 2002 St John acquired the business of a well known firm of Chartered Surveyors – Matthews & Company, originally based in Leyton. This company now specialises in Residential Surveys and Valuations, including Building and Homebuyers surveys, Probate and Capital Gains Tax Valuations and Leasehold Enfranchisement, Party Wall and Boundary Disputes and operates out of Chelmsford, covering most East London and East Anglia post codes. All activities were merged under Autohouse Property Services Limited with effect from 1 April 2009.
As part of our strategy of providing comprehensive property services to our many clients throughout the UK, Autohouse Group merged with Gill+Penfold Chartered Surveyors, with effect from 1 February 2012. This gives added strength to both companies, aimed at maintaining a first class property service to all clients.
The combined practice will operate out of the Head Office in Chelmsford (pictured) and Wanstead
